"Good paediatric allergy service"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

My eight year old son has attended the Children's outpatients on several occasions for his multiple allergies. We have always found the surroundings and staff to be pleasant and welcoming. My son has always been happy to come here since his first approximately four years ago, and I was particularly impressed by how well the staff performed when he needed blood samples taking on his first visit. They were obviously well trained and relaxed about the whole process, which in turn reassured us.

On our most recent visit we saw the paediatric allergy consultant for a review and to update my son's treatment. We were very happy with the quality and amount of advice given, but concerned to learn that there is no adult allergy service offered. Apparently once my son reaches adulthood he will be discharged into primary care. Since he has a lifelong and potentially severe allergy I find this worrying. I would like to see specific adult allergy services offered within the hospital setting.
