"the doctors and nurses that cared ..."

About: King's Mill Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

the doctors and nurses that cared for my husband where great as always, they included us both in any decisions and always made sure that we knew what was happening both on intensive care and the new ward 43, due to how quickly he can go odwn hill they "old" docs and nurses communicated with "newer" ones what had happened and how quick things can go from bad to worse

What could be improved

bed management, on this stay we were lucky or should i say stubborn. due to my husband being on life support 3 times and controlling his illness we knew he needed proper care by people who knew how to deal with his illness. when he was admitted the previous time you can imagine our disgust when he was put on the short stay ward, the nurses there are not able to care for him and could not even get his medication for him as we were told by a member of the team that they are not a medical ward and do not have a pharmacist. dont get me wrong the nurses were good at what they did. one spent 2hrs trying to get what he needed and in the end was told by a member of the bed management team to do the job they ware paid to do. SORRY BUT I THOUGHT THEIR JOB WAS TO CARE FOR PATIENTS. it wasnt until i contacted the consultant directly that they were actually aware that their patient was in hospital(this was 3 days later) that he even saw a doctor after leaving a&e,his doctor has taken this personally and promised to us that this would never happen again and has told us that if he is admitted to contact their assitant and make them aware of it so they can make sure their team treat my husband properly. due to the number of admittions ove the last few years we have got to know the nurses well and all were disgusted by the fact that a patient with such a condition who goes from being ok on a ward to beng on life support 10mins later was put on the short stay ward and all have stated its due to beds and the fact that there is a 4hr stay time in a&e and do not like to go over this. i know that the hospital is being updated and times are hard there but as i say the people that actually make the hospital work i.e. the docs and nurses are amazing and i would put my life in their hands but the pen pushes and the people who sit behind the desks make the experiance a bad one

Thank you for letting us know your thoughts. It would appear that you were satisfied with your husbands most recent admittance but very unhappy with aspects of his previous stay. We are sorry that you feel like this and would like to discuss this further. To do this please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Department on 01623 672222.
