"Concerns about lack of diagnosis"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I visited a-doc following abdominal pain in my right side. The GP I saw was thorough and based on her findings she wanted me 'checked'.

After making my way across to A&E I was seen to within an hour and then admitted to ward 4A for further tests. I was put in a ward with 5 elderly men. I am female in my 30's. I was put on a bed with no pillow, no emergency buzzer and left to wait.

The nurse did my admission, she was very friendly and organised for a dr to see me ASAP to get something for the pain. After being poked and prodded (coz it seems no Jr. Doctor can insert a line these days) I was given pain relief.

The next few days I was given an ultrasound, ct scan and bloods checked. Nothing apparent seemed to show, but on 3 separate occasions previously I was misdiagnosed. About 4 times I was asked about my periods, endometriosis etc although I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago! No one seemed to read the notes before speaking to me. Then I was made to feel like I was a hypochondriac, as nothing obvious was showing on my scans.

I was discharged on morphine sulphate and made to feel like I was "bed blocking". I have never been made me feel so small in my life. The nurses seem run ragged, the domestics are always busy ensuring their domain is pristine. Yet you have an individual that has, or is, working to have loads of letters after their name that prove they are qualified in their field. They should have a diploma for 'listening toy your patient, being empathetic and relying on your own instincts that brought you to medicine'. Because if relying purely on robot devices to spell out the answers will bring your patient numbers down, but only because 1- you've misdiagnosed and they are dead 2- they are at home suffering because they don't want to "trouble anyone" or 3 - they're too scared to be made to feel like a hyperchondriac wasting their time!

As I'm writing this, I'm laying in my own bed, wide awake, and in agony but don't wish to experience what I have done over these last few days.
