"Thanks to lifestyle management for arthritis programme"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

I attended a 4 week course for the above run by Heather and Jane Marie at Hairmyers Hospital, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. I had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a few months previously and was surprised at the number of women who were experiencing similar symptoms of this disease. Heather and Jane Marie were very informative and patient in teaching us how to adapt our ways in doing day to day tasks. Things that we take for granted every day, eg making a cup of tea, light lunch, etc. We practised the changes until we were more confident in our chores. However, there were days when we may have overdone it. So it was rest for the next couple of days Heather and Jane Marie helped us to stay positive explaining that sometimes we would feel very down but after adapting our ways we would pick up again.. There were also little gadgets we could purchase or sometimes they were supplied to us to help us in our tasks. I would highly recommend attending this course if you have been diagnosed with this illness. Heather and Jane Marie were very friendly and at times we had a few giggles as we practised. I left the course feeling more positive about the way I would be fighting this disease. Its not going to beat me. Thank you Heather and Jane Marie.
