"Speedy, open and professiloal, friendly..."

About: Dorset County Hospital

First symptoms noticed and visit to my Medical Centre on 30 Nov 15. Test results resulted in Dorchester Hospital appointment for 14 Dec15 to receive scan and cystography. On this date scan and Consultant appointment took place but cystography was postponed due to staff sickness. This was rearranged for 24 Dec15 but in the meantime, on 17 Dec15, I was given appointments for Cardiology tests, pre Operation Assessment Unit and Scan.i.e. excellent concurrent activity. I had a cystography and Consultant appointment on 24 Dec 15 when bladder cancer was confirmed. An operation was arranged for 12 Jan16 which was subsequently brought forward to 5 Jan.

The operation and subsequent hospitalisation went smoothly and I was cared for very well and with professionalism. Immediately prior to the op I was visited and briefed by the surgeon and anaesthetist. I received the results of the op and biopsy on21 Jan and My chemotherapy course commenced on 28 Jan.

Throughout this process I received professional, friendly, timely and open treatment. I was particularly impressed with this aspect of the treatment - at all stages I was carefully briefed on my condition, the necessary treatment plan and aftercare and all my questions were answered fully.

I have nothing but admiration and praise for the staff who looked after me and continue to look after me through this frightening experience which a cancer diagnosis is.

Response from Dorset County Hospital

Thank you for leaving such lovely feedback.

I am so pleased to read that despite an initial postponement you were seen quickly and your care and treatment was professional yet friendly.

It is very important to us patients are fully informed to make their choices and decisions, especially at such frightening times, when there is so much to take in and I am delighted to hear that all your questions were answered openly.

I will make sure your comments are passed onto the teams who cared for you, and I wish you all the best with your treatment.
