"Problems with Clinic 8, Audiology (Again!)"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My son eventually got an appointment through from clinic 8 and attended last week (He was due to see someone in october but turned up for an appointment in december that was cancelled when we signed in via the reception desk). There were issues with a grommet stuck in his ear and causing ear infections.

My son has been given a prescription for drops to clear up the ear infection and has been told to come back next month (Presumably the skin growing over the old grommet and causing the infections will magically disappear in the mean time! ) so they can test the level of hearing and decide if they need to remove the grommet.

When his dad tried to hand in the prescription he was told that the drops are no longer manufactured and that Kings Mill have previously been told this several times.

After several phone calls to clinic 8 I now have to take time off work, drive to kings mill, pay an extortionate amount of money to park in the car park and collect the prescription from clinic 8 itself. I cant get it sent to my doctors or even sent via internal post to save taking time off work. Nothing is ever simple with this clinic and it feels that we have to constantly chase appointments (and check he hasn't been missed off waiting lists again).

I've left messages previously on the answer phone for his consultant's secretary, asking to be transferred to another hospital. I would rather travel to another county, if necessary, than be treated at clinic 8 again. I find staff unhelpful, rude and full of excuses. Delays of months seem to be the norm and if I query as to why we are 6 months behind when we should have been seen I get sighs and excuses about backlogs. It's been like this for the last three or four years at least, how long are backlogs like this going to be allowed to drag on before someone somewhere steps in and forces them to be dealt with?

Hopefully this time my story will receive some sort of response. I previously posted, and although other posts of a more positive nature have been acknowledged and responded to, my post has been ignored.

I have again left a message asking to be transfered to another hospital but am not holding my breath that I will get any joy with this.

Thank you for taking the time to review our audiology service. We take all concerns seriously, and we would like to investigate your case further. Please contact PET@sfh-tr.nhs.uk and the Patient Experience Team will look into this in detail.

Kind regards,
