I saw a consultant who agreed that I needed a spinal nerve block and some of the minor spinal nerves dissolved due to intense lumbar spine pain. My referral letter outlined that I have Type 1 diabetes. It was also made clear that I have a PhD in intensive diabetes self-management using insulin pump therapy.
I attended a pre-assessment on 4th Feb and then the hospital on the 11th (today) for the surgery. I was told that I was not on the admissions list and that the receptionist would check. I was later told by a nursing sister that my operation had been cancelled by the anaesthetist on 5th Feb because 'I was too high risk in using an insulin pump'.
At no time did I receive any communication regarding this issue, and this was not even discussed with me, as I had agreed with the consultant that the surgery would be performed under local anaesthetic, as it was easier for me regarding my diabetes.
I now have no option for intense pain relief and KIMS did not even have the courtesy to raise these concerns with me prior to my attending for the surgery.
"A complete lack of communication & courtesy"
