"Improvements are necessary"
I stayed in Russell house for quite a long time. During that time it was apparent that team working was minimal. The health care assistants were not listened to by the senior members of staff despite them having more input in to our care and therefore their opinion important. The consultant did not take the time to hey to know you as an individual and there was a large degree of bias. Many RMNs spent their time in the office making decisions about you and forming opinions without getting to know you.
Ultimately it was not all bad, there were a number of fantastic staff working there. Unfortunately these staff are oppressed by an institutionalised service.
I feel for that care is not personalised. They cannot deal with things that are not textbook and are judgemental of things they do not understand. Several members of staff were incredibly disrespectful towards the patients.
The housekeeping staff were great, they worked damn hard with an inappropriate building full of mold, stains and smells. They did their best with what they had.
Therapy services were good and I learnt a lot there.
Dietetically however there is a focus on healthy food that has hindered my recovery.
