I recently visited this appalling place to see an extremely ill family member, following a long exhausting drive to the establishment I have seen better facilities and surroundings at the local kennels. It's old cottage style appearance, long unlit cold corridors make it feel more like a mortuary than a clean comfortable professional environment, this feeling was re-enforced in the actual ward too. A Dimly lit, over crowded, poorly manned ward. During my visit I found navigating to my family member an obstacle course of desks, empty beds in the middle of corridors, trolleys. When i located the patient I find the standards of arrangements and care appalling - not elevated correctly, not on the correct equipment. When I left my family member I had to step over a pink bag of waste that had been dumped outside a door in the centre of my walkway. From my experience of this visit, I have many concerns for the patients and visitors, and not just for the lack of care being received, if there was to be a fire there would potentially be many losses due to the obstacles and potential difficulty in exiting the ward.
This is an extremely ill patient that is unable to ask for assistance might I re-iterate. The staff were clearly unable to provide the relevant or appropriate care needed and didn't appear to be bothered that they were failing an NHS patient. This is not a hospital that I would ever recommend purely based on this experience.
"Total disgrace"
