"Assessment ward D41"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

After having to attend this ward for 2 days whilst staff / consultant decided what was wrong with me. I was sat in a room full of seats around the perimeter with other patients who had been admitted via Gps who were told they would be placed on a ward only to be sat waiting for different treatments in this one room. The first day they decided to let me go to see how I went through the night but booked me in for a scan the following morning at 8.45. I arrived on the ward again the next morning in pain waited for my scan and told to sit yet again in this waiting room again I was told I couldn't eat or drink incase I needed to go to surgery that was at 9.30am. I saw a consultant who took bloods and again told to wait in this packed waiting area. Still nothing to eat or drink. The tea came in and was unsure if I was allowed anything to drink as nothing said. Due to the lack of communication between all members of staff on that ward the room soon became very over crowded and people becoming annoyed. When you are sick and in pain the last thing you want to do is sit in a room with strangers who are there for different things and again they are being told nothing so tempers are rising. I had to go and ask at 3.45 in the afternoon if I could have a sip of water as I felt really ill and the nurse told me oh yeah your results came back 2 hours ago clear, feel free to go down to the canteen for a sandwich and drink. waiting in the I was fuming, care in this hospital doesn't exist. I was still sitting in the waiting room when people around me were saying it's ridiculous one had dementia waiting for a blood transfusion, one had copd waiting for oxygen but we were like sardines in a can in this room with no one coming in to tell us what was happening. I was eventually sent home and told to rest and drink plenty, no explanation to what was wrong with me or why I'm in this pain. Just sent home and I was told this in a corridor. I wouldn't recommend this hospital to my worst enemy as I don't think patient care exists, and I defiantly know communication does exist at all between all members of staff and patients.
