Recently, my frail mother became very disoriented and agitated it was clear she was in some distress and some pain too. After a call to the Out of Hours GP service, I was advised to take her to A&E at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. In honesty, I was dreading it and given it was late evening on a Saturday was expecting it to be horrible.
But, nothing could have been further from the case. Yes the place was really very busy and there were the obligatory drunks. However the male nurse practitioner who initially saw and assessed my mother was lovely. He seemed to think mum had a urinary tract infection (odd I thought) and we did wait a while to see the doctor. The Dr was a young guy and quite charming. He was of the same opinion and quickly started IV antibiotics. Sadly mum had to be admitted overnight for observation and treatment. She ended up in hospital for two nights. The care she received was superb. Efficient, caring and at all times she was dealt with with respect and compassion. I really could not praise the care enough. I am only sorry that I did not get the names of the nurse and Dr who dealt with us to sing their praises.
"Excellent Care at A&E for my mother"
