"Very long waits for MRI results"

About: Salford Royal

I’m sad to say that for a second time I have waited longer than the expected six to eight weeks for scan results, despite having had to contact PALS previously for the same issue.

I did get my results twelve weeks after my scan, but this was after chasing it up twice with the secretary.

The previous time I chased up scan results, I was never given a call back from the secretary even after leaving several messages, and after ten weeks I felt the need to contact PALS.

The waiting time for scan results seems to be three to four months; this should be something patients know upfront. We are told six to eight weeks, but recently I have not known this to be fact.

Although I am incredibly grateful for the care the NHS provides, the added stress of waiting for results is not good for anyone when it goes weeks after the proposed six to eight weeks wait.

Perhaps this needs addressing, even if to tell people to expect longer waits.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your recent experience. We can only imagine how frustrating and difficult this must have been for you, please accept our apologies, we would like to assure you that this is not normal practice.

If you haven't already done so, please can we encourage you to contact our PALS service again on 0161 206 2003 or email them directly on pals@srft.nhs.uk - they will be able to explain how we can best investigate the issues you have raised and to give you some answers.

Thank you.
