"As a very nervous patient on ..."

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

As a very nervous patient on the Endoscopy ward having a hysteroscopy I was made to feel as relaxed as possible. All members of staff were very professional, courteous and helpful. Despite my pain and discomfort both during and particularly afterwards, everyone was caring and understanding. I realise that patients can react differently whilst undergoing medical proceedures so it was good to be treated with care and compassion. The nurse, Katherine was very thoughtful and supportive throughout the proceedure. Once in recovery I was again cared for very well and was given medication to combat the pain. Sister Peacock and Richard took great care of me throughout. They made sure that I was well enough to go home without making me feel like a nuisance as I experienced a lot of pain once the proceedure was complete.

What could be improved

As I was in recovery for well over an hour, it would have been appreciated if a member of staff had communicated with my husband in the waiting room to allay his fears.

Anything else?

I particularly found that once "recovered" the nurse that had carried out the proceedure came to see me and to explain what had happened and what to expect over the coming days at home.
