My partner, went into Newtown Hospital as a informal patient, but because of his disability, of being tetraplegic, I felt they did not understand him, he was protecting himself (how would they feel if they were in a wheelchair, had no legs to walk on) but I think they thought he was being aggressive, and put him on a section 3, in my view so they could override him, and take over and force him to take medication. In my opinion he had only got manic, because we were going to get married. After two weeks of being in there he was back to his normal self.
In my opinion the lack of care he got was disgusting and upsetting. Because I could of done it all myself, because I was his carer as well. He needed a lot more attention then a able bodied person and in my view they were not prepared for that and they had no idea how to look after him, on a daily basis. A drink was thrown on him, he could not feel it. I feel he was neglected, human rights had been taken away from him, there was no heating on for him, he had no equipment to help him, or stop him from getting pressure sores.
I felt that he was expected to do everything that a abled bodied person could do, he never did it when he was at home because he had carers. Why should things change? I feel that the care he had at home should of followed him into hospital. I feel the system let him down.
