My partner was sent to CDU by our GP at 11am on Monday morning with a suspected DVT and infection in his leg.
He has a history of DVT's with a blood clotting disorder.
He spent from 11am in the morning until 9.30pm that night sat on a hard chair in a waiting area which seemed to serve as a communal treatment room.
He was very tired and feeling very unwell and in a lot of pain and not able to raise his bad leg as he should or rest his head.
He was put on a drip and bloods taken and just left.
As his leg got redder and bruised and more painful I was concerned he might lose the leg but there was no one to talk to. Those who cam in shouting and moaning got a bed and whilst I am sure you will use the excuse their need was greater it is odd they were all the complaining ones! in the end at night beds were wheeled into the waiting area and he was put in one of those. How unhygienic is that people had been in and out of the room all day! The next morning he was moved to the men's short stay ward and finally given a scan which showed thankfully he did not have a DVT but throughout the previous day whilst sat in a chair the infection had got worse.
Last night he went to sleep but was woken up at 11.45pm to move to another ward! Was this really necessary, isn't sleep important to get well?
My partner told me a young person needed to be admitted and they were chatting and laughing with the nurses and playing them music, they seemed quite popular so got a bed despite disturbing everyone's sleep. On moving my partner was also told he was being discharged home the next day even though he can barely walk, he cannot put his one foot to the floor - and certainly he cannot climb two flights of stairs to our second floor apartment. Yesterday he was told he would have physio but last night he was told no he was just being discharged. I do not know what is going to happen and no one at the hospital gives a damn, there are one or two kind staff but the majority are rude and hostile it is the worst experience imaginable, degrading, dirty and very very frightening.
"Disgusting all round from admission to discharge"
