"Care of my mother in the Royal Blackburn..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

My mother, Isabel Culshaw, has been in and out of hospital since May 2015.

She was initially admitted with heart problems and was on ward C2 twice (May, June).

She was then re-admitted in August/September with a broken hip after suffering a fall at home.

She was on ward B22 until being transferred to Preston on Sat 3rd October for an operation to remove a malignant lump on her leg and she is still there as they decide on the next course of action.

(she hasn't been in Preston long enough for me to comment).

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the nursing staff on these two wards at Royal Blackburn.

My sisters and I feel that she was extremely well looked after.

Even though she is 90 years old there was never a feeling that people had "given up on her".

The staff all appeared to be kind and caring, as well as efficient and cheerful, and made sure that my mother and the other patients who shared the mini-ward retained their dignity and personal privacy.

There was never a feeling that these elderly patients were being neglected.

The ward always seemed clean with no unpleasant odours.

The staff dealt kindly with other patients who clearly had dementia and were sometimes being "difficult", or abusive, and sometimes even violent.

Thankyou again.
