"Delivery of my fifth child"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

This was the first time I had entered the new hospital when I went in to have a caeserean. After having children in Ashington old hospital and the Wansbeck this was a totally different experience.

When we walked into the ward we were both welcomed and shown to the room that I would be staying in the whole of my stay. It was very clean and it was lovely having ensuite facilities and a pull out bed for my husband, was another extra bonus.

The staff explained things very clearly and made the wait for my caeserean a calm one instead of being worried sick I was quite calm and relaxed.

The surgery went well and I couldn't thank the theatre staff enough, they were all brilliant and explained things that happened in detail. Aftercare in the recovery room was very good too. It was a very relaxed atmosphe.

Aftercare on the ward for the two days I was in was a calming experience and made the first two days of my babys life a positive one.

The only negatives I have about the hospital was the constant smokers around the doorways which made the entrance very smelly and not very healthy for people that do not smoke. Another problem was the drunks singing and shouting in the car park on both nights that I stayed. Why is there not a guard that moves these people away like they do at the rvi and freeman.

Overall I would recommend the maternity services at this hospital. I would like to thank all the staff that I met whilst staying there.

Dear Sun74ever,

Many congratulations on the birth of your baby - I hope you and your family are enjoying this special time as you welcome your new member.

Many thanks for your top rating of maternity care at The Northumbria - it's lovely to know that your overall impression is one of a calm and comforting place where you felt well cared for and supported. Great stuff. Thank you also for your kind comments about the skills of our staff - I will make sure they have the chance to read your review.

I will also feed back your comments to our estates team regarding the noise at night.

Our hospitals are all designated as non smoking areas for the reasons you give. We know that Nicotine addiction is strong however and that, for some, the need to smoke will override the requests we make to avoid this on our hospitals sites.

We will continue to remind the public of our duty to promote a healthy environment for all our patients and visitors.

Wishing you and your family all the very best - hope your wee one continues to thrive,

Annie
