"Horrific and abusive"

About: Springfield University Hospital (London)

My whole experience on Avalon was a living hell I experienced physical abuse and mental I also had a consultant who didn't listen at all to my views and parents just their own and all they cared about is weight gain . I have never come across such an unapproachable person and team, staff sleeping on levels giving out wrong medication and being around agency staff who had no idea on eating disorders. I can only pick a few helpful staff members and they were permenant bank everyone else was ignorant and forcefull and using restraint unnecessarily !! Never go there unless u have to

‘The Trust is committed in providing service users, their families and carers with the best standards of care.

Avalon treats patients with severe eating disorders with low body mass index (BMI), and a large proportion of the patient group may be treated under the Mental Health Act. It is disappointing to learn about patients experience which may not feel that this was the case.

Avalon ward has made a range of changes to improve the ward which included the upgrading of the physical environment, as well as robust recruitment to the team to a range of multidisciplinary staff including nursing staff.

The ward continues to work very hard in working with patients collaboratively to promoting their recovery. We are also actively recruiting to positions on the ward and have made good progress with this, but recognising there is still more work to do in this area.
