"Fantastic labour unit"

About: Lincoln County Hospital

I had my first baby here in Nov 2014. I had been very apprehensive because I had only heard bad stories about the maternity unit and being unable to see the unit before I went into labour as tours had been stopped and having all my antenatal care at Grantham Hospital didn't help ease my concerns. However, from the moment I arrived at the labour ward I couldn't have had better care and support. My daughter was in distress when we arrived and I wasn't coping with the pain, but despite things becoming complicated with her arrival, my daughter and I were looked after so well. I was in the labour ward for over 24 hours, including 12 hours after delivery as I had lost blood and all of the staff we saw were absolutely fantastic throughout the entire time. I wouldn't hesitate to have another baby here. The postnatal ward was extremely busy during the few nights I was there and whilst the first night I was there was absolutely fine, there wasn't enough staff to help the number of patients I felt. The staff did their best but my experience of the postnatal ward was not pleasant compared to the labour ward. The medical care for myself and my daughter was still excellent, but support in trying to resolve breastfeeding issues was very limited which caused problems with feeding for my daughter. I was given the impression that the staff didn't have time to deal with requests for support for feeding.
