"Children's outpatients waiting time"

About: Tameside General Hospital

Our appointment was 11.05 didn't see consultant until 12.30, our appointment was the last appointment, we were told the last appointment was 11.05 as the clinic closed at 12.39 and they had to give time in case patients were sent for tests.

That means arriving for 11.05 we were never going to see the doctor until almost 12.30 and you expect a 18month old child to wait that long! It's absolutely ridiculous system.

During this time the patients left the doctors office and there was a long wait until the next patient were sent in, obviously there were no need to send patients for tests that day so the surgery had to be dragged out and small children had to wait.

We were fobbed out by the doctor that there was an emergency but we pointed out that we actually spoke to the mother whose child had the emergency and it did not take a long time to deal with it and after this there were 3 patients left and it took over half an hour to call them in and they were only in minutes, then there was a long wait until the next patient was called in, so beware if your appointment is after 10.30 it will be dragged out, and if your appointment is 11.05 you won't see the doctor until almost 12.30 or later but don't turn up late as you won't be seen because you were late (that's what we were told)

We are really sorry you have had cause to raise these concerns.

The team pride themselves in trying to keep parents informed if there are any delays during clinics and to ensure that clinics run to time. There are on occasions however that due to unforeseen circumstances a clinic runs late.

These comments will be shared with the departmental manager to review your experience and see if there are ways to improve the experience of parents and children.

If you would like the specific details of your experience to be responded to personally please can I ask you to contact our Pals and Complaints team on 0161 922 4466 or email palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk who will be able to arrange this
