"My experience taking statins"

About: Royal South Hants Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was prescribed statins in April 2014 for allegedly dangerous elevated cholesterol, at first I had no problems then in July 1014 I developed a very severe cold, snotty nose and a cough, this ended up being with me for 17 months and was very nasty, I had every test going for lung cancer etc and was all clear.

I found out later that this was non-allergic rhinitis I also developed muscle aches, sex problems and chills followed by a lack of get up and go. I had no idea at the time that the problems were due to statins and it got so bad that in Feb 2015 I began to suspect statin damage and I stopped taking them, but I still had not googled side effects. When I finally looked on the internet I was shocked and devastated.

My doctor had not warned me of any of the side effects or that I should not eat or drink grapefruit which can exacerbate the side effects.

Summer 2015 was awful, I developed frequent urination problems, I went through cold turkey from withdrawal of statins, but by December I was taking another drug and I was feeling a bit better, even the rhinitis had nearly gone away then the stomach pains hit me and now although my nose is not running I feel awful again and I am going through loads of other cancer tests. it is now February and I don't see an end to all this, before taking any drug please google the side effects so you may not end up like me.
