"More information about wait needed during my..."

Recently, I visited the walk in centre at 6 pm at Widnes, after experiencing a loss of memory about 4 hours earlier. I had open heart surgery 4 years ago. The nurse at the walk in centre examined me and referred me to Whiston hospital A&E with a written letter. I arrived at Whiston A&E about 7 pm, seen by a stroke nurse and then sent to Ward 1B, where I had blood taken then sent to a waiting room. I was not seen by a doctor until 3 am. I think all the doctors were busy on A&E. At 3am I was then told I would be stopping overnight. I think this is because only a junior doctor was working on the night shift and a more senior doctor would be working during the day. I had no objection to stopping over night, I just don't understand why I could not have been told this at say 9 pm. It was an unnecessary wait for my wife, as we both thought when I was eventually seen at 3 am I was going to be discharged. Talking to others in the waiting room, it may be a coincidence but those stopping overnight had been referred by a trained NHS person and not simple walked into A&E of their own accord.
