"Obstetrics appointment"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

I visited the obstetrics department as an outpatient in January 2016. My maternity record was incorrectly interpreted and, therefore, it appeared that the consultant had not spent enough time to read them. This resulted in a misunderstanding as to why I had attended the department- they thought I had attended due to an ongoing medical condition. Eventually, this was sorted out and I was told when my future appointments will be. I was due to attend the department after my 16 weeks scan however I have still not heard anything back regarding this. I was advised by my midwife to ring the obstetrics department to ensure

I had been booked for an appointment to prevent any delays, which I did. However, the member of staff who answered my call was extremely rude and abrupt. I was put through to another department but nobody answered. I have now given up calling the department. I have had a difficult few months with my pregnancy and the way I am being treated is causing me unnecessary stress and I feel worried about the standards of care that are being provided. From sitting in the waiting, I got the impression that the staff in the department are overworked, hence there being 45 minutes delay making errors more prone. The member of staff who answered my call should have communicated with better inter-personal skills. I would advise all expectant mothers to check their maternity record to ensure it is completed accurately.

We would be pleased to arrange for these concerns to be investigated if the patient would like to contact us directly.
