"Lovely staff, felt completely reassured"
About: Royal Derby Hospital Royal Derby Hospital Derby DE22 3NE
I attended Derby Royal Hospital on 29th January 2016 for Gallbladder removal surgery.
I think this was the Urology/Day Surgery but I can't remember as I was a bit distracted that day!
I arrived at just before 7am, as requested and went to a waiting room.
The nurses kept me well informed about when my surgery would be taking place.
I was told what to expect and the procedure before, during and after the surgery was explained in a way that made me feel reassured.
I went down to theatre and the anaesthetist and another member of staff were so kind.
The next thing I knew I was in recovery where another nurse reassured me that my surgery had gone well.
I was moved to a recovery ward and again the nurses there were wonderful.
They gave me plenty of time to rest, snooze and come round.
I was offered cups of tea, cold drinks, snacks and jelly to perk me up, which were received very gratefully!
All this, together with required pain relief.
The nurses seemed to instinctively appear when I needed assistance and were all so nice.
I left the hospital at around 3.30pm and although I obviously felt rough from having surgery, I felt happy to be going home.
I was given a phone number I could call if I had any concerns and the nurses made sure that my prescription was ready for me and gave me a full run down of what symptoms I could expect over the next few days.
The whole experience, although obviously very worrying for me, was made a lot easier by the kind and caring staff.
This operation must take place hundreds of times a year but not once did I feel like I was just a statistic or a number.
