I am an employee of the NHS. Last March I injured my shoulder. I self referred to the physiotherapy depart. Therapy was not helping and I was in a great deal of pain. I was not referred to an orthopaedic consultant by the physiotherapist, I had to request an ultra sound scan and an MRI scan which took some time to be done.
In the meantime the pain was increasing so I paid to see a consultant who gave me several injections several weeks apart, which were of no benefit. I am on sick leave during this, therefore my patients are not being seen.
In the end I paid to have an operation and will be back in work next month. I will have been on sick leave for almost a year.
I feel disappointed by the lack of care I have received by my employer, perhaps this is also happening to other members of staff.
