"awesome ambulance crew"

About: Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

I called 111 this morning to report my 9 year old daughter's symptoms and ask for some advice (it was too early to speak to my surgery).

She is normally v active and energetic; for 3 days she had been feeling dizzy, sick and lethargic, and was white in palour, early this morning I couldn't get her to get up for sch (totally out of character), she didn't like the light, noise was complaining of neck pains etc.. the 111 operator was extremely detailed in their questions and felt they should call me an ambulance (I have a number of children under 9 and my husband was away).. within 10 minutes of the operator stating this the ambulance crew had arrived.

They calmly examined my daughter who was by now sitting up.

They spent almost 45 minutes observing her and were extremely happy that she was a low risk and there was no requirement to move her to hospital and that, whilst her earlier symptoms had rung alarm bells, she was fine and could be seen by our GP.

I have not had an ambulance before at the house and was extremely impressed by their professionalism and detailed help. Whilst this , luckily for us, was not an emergency they did not make me feel I had wasted their time, called my surgery for me and handed over her case.

She was then seen by our GP and is being monitored (she is still not well but I feel her symptoms are being checked).

Whilst I would normally hesitate to call for an ambulance I am grateful to all concerned who assisted today and I have much faith in these hard working individuals who are clearly professionals.

I hope I do not need to call on them again but given the circumstances and the worry of every parent with regard to meningitis I am grateful that they supported my family today.
