"The ward was cleaned regularly ..."

About: Salisbury District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The ward was cleaned regularly to a high standard. All the staff were kind and The Senior Registrar explained things fully to me.

What could be improved

The doctors could have introduced themselves by name and position.

.

Communication between the medical teams: I was told by a consultant at lunchtime the results of my investigations and was advised that I would be staying in hospital for a further two days. Friends who visited me in the afternoon were also advised about my possible discharge date. At 5 p.m. I was told by another doctor I could go home. I was asked to arrange my own transport and was forced to get a taxi which was extremely expensive as I live over twenty miles away.

I do not know if there is a detailed procedure for discharge of a patient but as a person living on their own, it would have been a kindness to be asked if their would be some support from friends/family. 6 p.m. is not a reasonable time at which to be discharged, especially when one lives alone.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that communication around your discharge was less than ideal. Without further information, we are unable to look into what happened in more detail. If you would like us to do this, please contact our Customer Care Department on 0800 374208 so that we can look into the concerns that you have raised. We hope that you are recovering well at home.
