I had to take my 13 year old daughter to get her thumb x-rayed after she trapped it in a car door. I was dithering about whether to take to Barnet or Edgware community, but as my main concern was getting an x-ray and Edgware may have closed their x-ray by the time we were seen (as has happened before), I risked the wait at A&E. WE did have to wait over an hour to be triaged, and being the only teen in paeds A&E it was a bit tiresome, but once we were triaged we were called through very quickly to see a nurse practitioner, then x-ray (no-one else was waiting there) and back to see the nurse who declared no break, just badly bruised, so off we went! I have to say all the staff were very pleasant and chatty, and no-one made us feel that we shouldn't have been there despite a tannoy announcement that unless you had 'life threatening' injuries, you should see your GP tomorrow or go to a walk-in (despite them shutting at 9pm and this was around 8.45pm). We were in and out in just over 1.5 hours despite them saying that the wait was 4-5 hours for non-urgent cases, maybe the wait is less in paeds, plus we only saw a nurse practitioner.
