"my mother was an in patient in Aspen Ward"

About: Callington Road Hospital

My mum was admitted as a patient at Callington Road Psychiatric Hospital at end Dec 2015. She was suffering from severe depression, acute anxiety and psychotic thoughts. She was given her own room with private bathroom. The ward was mixed but there were only women in her corridor. Let me say that if you have never had to do it-It is a very scary thing to have to leave your loved one in a psychiatric hospital, scary for them and for you, You worry...about everything. However, the staff at this hospital are amazing, as was our mum's care. The consultant Psychiatrist is absolutely fantastic, they are so approachable and really takes an interest in their patients. Their medical team are also terrific, but I believe it comes from the consultant and their caring approach especially towards the elderly, a sector of our society often overlooked. My mum is 90 years old but at no time did we feel her at a disadvantage because of her age.Mum was in hospital for four weeks, she went from being completely out of it, not eating drinking or sleeping to coming back to us, as she had been before her illness. She received 6 ECT treatments and was monitored very closely at all times. Today we took mum home, she is well and happy and for us, it is nothing short of a miracle. Thank you to all the caring staff at the Aspen Ward, in particular to the Consultant Psychiatrist,( you know who you are!) Thank you for giving us back our mum.
