I had my first appointment at the Russels Hall Ophthalmology unit on Saturday, and as I have thankfully not had any experience with receiving care to my eyes previously I was pretty nervous, especially when I found out that I would have to have some initial tests before seeing the Doctor that involved local anaesthetic drops & the poking of an instrument in to my eye to check the pressure. As a person who does not stomach this kind of thing very well, the path of my thoughts was on the way to me passing out.
At this point I was very worried indeed, and had it not been for the genuine, caring and comforting attitude of the staff, two in particular and reassurance from I think every other nurse/member of staff in the room also I dare say I would not have been able to go ahead.
I cannot stress what a difference this made, particularly the two previously mentioned as I was lucky enough to be designated with them. However from the way that the other staff in the room went out of there way to involve themselves and aid the reassurance, I am confident that any 2 members of the team would have made the effort to do the same.
Again I have to stress the genuineness of these nurses, and their genuineness to the cause of making their patients feel comforted and at ease. It would be difficult to overstate how essential this is to a brilliant health service.
Thank you so much! And more generally thank you to Ophthalmology and Russel's Hall.
If every member of staff in every department of every hospital is like this, we are very lucky to have the NHS! Thank you.
