"Constantly bad experience in orthopaedics"
About: Royal Free Hospital Royal Free Hospital London NW3 2QG
The reception staff in the orthopaedic clinic are rude. I have been to the clinic many times and waited 2 hours on every occasion only to be told my file was put in the wrong place.
I have never seen the doctor and have found the registrars to give me opposite advice and I feel very rushed to get out of the appointment.
I was told I needed a trigger release surgery. I was told it would be under local. I then got a letter to say I needed to go and have a pre- general anaesthetic consultation.
On arrival I was told they weren't actually sure what I'd be having.
During my trigger release surgery the doctor severed my nerve and as a result I have permanent nerve damage and will never regain feeling in my finger. (My occupation is a photographer) I realise that this is a risk but at no point did I get an apology from the doctor in question. When I was told the news by a registrar, the doctor was in the cubicle next door but didn't bother to come and discuss it with me themself.
After my surgery I was given a piece of toast and told I could leave whenever I wanted. The doctor did not even come and see me to let me know how it went. It took numerous phone calls and emails to finally get them to tell me if the surgery had been a success. They said it had been. It hasn't and I have constant pain months after the incident.
I don't think that this treatment is acceptable .
