"Can't get to see a doctor"

About: Beaumont Hospital

I have just had my consultant appointment cancelled for the third time.

Consultation is connected with a problem that may be bowel cancer

This is apparently because the Consultants have decided to cancel clinics - 3 times.

I would imagine this is unlikely to happen with private patients.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We welcome all comments, including those that are based on a negative experience, as this gives us an opportunity to investigate and hopefully improve the service we provide.

I cannot comment on your own specific experience without knowing the details. Therefore if you would like to contact me I will be please to look into your concerns for you.

On a more general level I can advise that we are only commissioned to see routine NHS patient referrals.

If any patient has symptoms that might be indicative of cancer their GP will refer them into a service set up to handle this type of enquiry.

The majority of our clinics have NHS, insured and self-pay patients booked into them.

This means that if a clinic is cancelled, all patients are affected equally.

There are policies in place to ensure that clinics are only cancelled at less than 6 weeks notice in exceptional circumstances.

Sometimes clinic closures are unavoidable.

Consultant sickness, service failures, and consultants being called away to emergencies are all examples of this. All clinic closure are recorded and reported to our medical advisory committee and to the local clinical commissioning group, where they can be reviewed.

We know that any clinic cancellation that affects our patients has an impact on our reputation and we do everything we can to avoid closures where possible.

I'm sorry that you did not have a good experience with us and I will do what I can to explain the reasons your appointment cancellations if you would like to contact me.
