"Communication Problems"

After being given strict instructions at pre op assessment to use your anti bacterial wash/cream 2 days prior to my op ensuring I was germ free once in hospital I didn't receive any help to wash when unable to do so for myself. I had a revision hip replacement and was advised by the physio and consultant to only do partial weightbearing for 6 weeks! Try negotiating a stiff toilet door whilst on crutches 2 days after said operation. The toilet and washroom were totally inadequate and having to use a communal commode chair both over the loo and up to wash basin (when I finally made it) was disgusting.

I'm keeping this quite short as there were so many instances where the actual care of the patient after what I was told to be a major operation was sadly lacking! I would have thought that this would be paramount to ensure that the work of the consultant is successful.The special bed that I was in wasn't inflated properly and ended up with ridges sticking into my wound- but nobody seemed to be particularly interested in it- and if my husband hadn't insisted that the Nurse organise my prescription which seemed to be the only reason for me not being discharged I would have had to spend another night in that place- as it was i just had the tablets thrown on my bed with a dismissive "now he can pick you up then" they really had a bad attitude. Some of the nurses seem to be very professional whilst others are far from it - and there doesn't seem to be a good continuity of care- I could go on - but am now just going to concentrate on my recovery-which really is what it should be all about
