"Smear testing"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

I am so furious with this hospital today, 20 weeks ago I could not fault how the maternity ward were they were so helpful with the delivery of my child. Especially two particular members of staff they were both so fantastic.

But today was a different story, after having a long process of my doctors trying there best to allow me to have a smear test as im 22 and I put all my reasons across. I finally got accepted to go to the hospital today to be told by a very rude doctor I can't have a smear. What right did they have to not do my smear today? When I had been authorised to have one. Just because they didn't agree that I wasn't above 25. To then go ahead and tell me "if there is a problem you can't blame us and you'rl find out in 3 years" and if I did apparently have the test it would get sent down to the lab and they would take one look at it and throw it away as soon as they saw my age. My reasons were clear and that's why I got accepted. So to be told by some doctor ..no. I had an appointment come through the post so why did I waste my time going to George Elliot Hospital today! I will be going back to my doctors, and I will keep fighting for my smear test. They will be just as frustrated as me for how much effort they went too to get me accepted. I can't believe there is an age limit on your health! Your a hospital and I thought hospitals made sure people are healthy. But not today.

We can only apologise for your experience. Your experience is not acceptable and clearly not one we would want repeated. It would be very helpful if you would please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service with more details so that the staff you saw can be asked for an exolanation for their behaviour?.

Alternatively you can contact me directly through the main switchboard . PALS can be reached on (024) 7686 5550 or by email on PALS@geh.nhs.uk. The main switchboard number is (024) 76351351.

Kind regards

Christine Longstaff on behalf of the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.
