"A&E Psychiatric review after transport by..."

I was taken into hospital by Ambulance due to my poor mental health.

The ambulance crew were lovely and waited with me until I was escorted to the waiting room. Following my arrival I was sat waiting for over two hours before being moved to another waiting room where there were a little amount chairs. This resulted in me having to sit anxiously next to prison officers who allowed the people they were supposed to be looking after, quiz me continuingly for my reasons in hospital. This was quite intimidating.

After another hour feeling rather lethargic my name was called out across the A&E department however after not hearing the first time, several members of staff called out again, rather then approaching me. I finally saw a psychiatrist who lead me to a very cold and disorganized room before asking me a few questions and sending me back out. Because of this I didn't feel i could open up to the psychiatrist, which didn't help me in the long run.

After another 2 hours in the waiting room (still feeling extremely depressed), blood tests were done and I was taken to a short stay ward I believe. I would like to comment on how well the nurse made me feel less anxious and took the time to express how much life was worth living.

A few hours later it was mentioned that my blood test results were clear and that after breakfast (due to not eating for over 12 hours) i would be discharged. However, shortly after being told this, I was quickly hurried off the ward (without any food or water throughout my stay or in the morning) to go home.

Being that I was brought to the hospital by ambulance with no money and not knowing the way home, I asked the nurse what I should do? I was told that as it was 8am, I would need to wait 1 and half hours for the main office to open, to see if I could get money for a taxi however it was not guaranteed. As I am not in contact with any of my family, I decided to use the GPS on my phone to walk 40 minutes (feeling really weak by this time) back to where I lived.

I just hope other people who have suffered severely from mental health like myself, do not end up in this position as I ended up feeling worse then I went. This was due to feeling like i couldnt open up in the surroundings i was in and the lack of support i really needed at that time.
