"Listen to patients and Don' belittle them."

About: Northern General Hospital

Told back pain was common and that many people would suffer from the disease and not be bothered by it. Well that common disease meant that I was in traction for months, left wearing a plaster jacket and having to sleep on a paster bed. So it was just what I wanted to hear.

I felt that I was not listened to and was not involved in the decision process in any meaningful way.

I am so lucky that I have such a good GP.

Response from Deborah Hopkinson, Patient Experience Co-ordinator, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your feedback. The Trust places a great emphasis on listening and involving patients in the decision making process and it was very disappointing to read about your poor experience and that you feel that you were not listened to.

We would like to look into your concerns and respond to you personally if you would be willing to provide personal details. If you are able to do this please could you contact our Patient Services Team who will be pleased to assist. The team can be contacted by telephone on 0114 271 2400 or email pst@sth.nhs.uk

Kind regards.
