"Excellent care and service at a busy time"

About: Horton General Hospital

I attended the A & E department on Friday 22nd January with a UTI.

I had telephoned them to see if they could help me having had a conversation with the 111 service that gave me no confidence whatsoever. The receptionist was busy but when it came to booking me in, there was no rush, a smile and welcome.

I was triaged quite quickly and that nurse was polite and helpful.

The nurse who took my blood was excellent, I do not like needles, have a phobia about them, but that nurse was adept and before I knew it had inserted a cannula.

There were no cubicles so I had to sit in the corridor for a while, not a problem, the staff can not help with underfunding and shortage of beds and or space.

I was walking wounded and dressed, there were others with greater need for privacy.

I was checked up on regularly, and kept informed when I might get seen.

The Doctor listened when I explained my symptoms, I had a UTI before, so had an idea what was wrong, did checks that you would expect and assured me that it was just a UTI.

I had feared something far more sinister.

Eventually a cubicle was free, I was given antibiotics via the canular.

The nurse who administered them did not take offence when I asked about the air bubble in the line, think Columbo and air bubble to terminate someone?

In at 2300 out at 0510, delay with by seven staff from reception to discharge, all of whom were absolutely fine with me and to me.

I was so grateful and impressed that the following evening, I took a thank you card and some biscuits in as a mark of my appreciation.
