Following the care given to me at Kingsmill Ward 11 I was lucky enough to receive home support from one of the nurses who works for the Elective Orthopaedic Outreach Service.
This involved telephone support as well as visits to my home to check dressings and provide recovery advice following my hip replacement surgery. Both my wife who is caring for me at home and myself found this most beneficial as not only did we have the opportunity to ask any questions we also were able, through the Outreach Nurse to have questions answered on any aspect of my care by the staff on Ward 11 as well as the Surgical Team.
We were also able to offer feedback to the whole care team in practical ways that may assist future patients.
We were given mobile phone numbers of the nurses who provide this service as well as the extension number of the Elective Orthopaedic Outreach Service at Kingsmill.
Whilst I wasn't expecting to receive the benefits such as service I can now say, after having received my last home visit from them, that the benefits provided and the confidence it instilled in both me and my wife were immensely valuable. I also felt that the whole care package benefitted in that my surgeon and the Ward 11 recovery team would be able to at least consider any points I was able to raise which may help them in the work they do. It also provides a channel of direct communication with my surgeon so that he will be better able to review the progress I have made at home when I see them for my follow up appointment in a few weeks.
