"Appalling Cardiology Outpatients after initial..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

My initial visit to cardiology outpatients was in late 2014 (dilated aorta and ckd) and the consultant (C) seemed very helpful and ordered a CT scan. Intially this was with contrast (I cant have contrast media because it damages the kidneys) This was however cleared up after I voiced my concerns and highlighted the fact I couldnt have contrast. Had the scan and all went well in December. Saw another consultant (dont know who as the head of cardiology refused to give their name) in a follow-up visit with my son. Which as it happens turned out to be quite providential as a witness to what happened, otherwise I might have doubted my own sanity. The consultant explained what they found, I had a dilated aorta and would need another scan in 6 to 8 mths to see how much it is getting worse. They then clammed up completely. Refusing to answer any questions at all about what happens next. I felt like a dentist making an extraction trying to get any basic information from them such as what happens, outcomes, prospects, how I should look after myself etc! At one point as I pushed them suggesting I was putting words into their mouth. Crazy way to treat a patient. I complained to head of cardiology in writing and again put my questions and concerns, again these were ignored.

Susbequently at the next appointment I quite rightly said I do not want to see the same awful consultant. They said they had no way of knowing who they were or who I will see next time. I asked them to make an appointment for a follow-up scan which they did not do. Its now 13mths later and they dont give a damn. No contact at all.

It's scandalous the NHS are allowed to act in such an awful manner. You get better treatment from a garage if you were a car! The NHS doesnt want to know why things happen, how they happen, or what one could do to help prevent progression of illness. Its madness and no wonder the health service is in such a mess.
