"Exceptional person centred care"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Treated for kidney cancer and requiring a radical open nephroctomy, my 85 year old mother received exceptional care by the consultant, the HDU and ward 16 staff. From diagnosis to operation and now recovery, mum was kept included and engaged in her treatment. The consultant is an exceptional surgeon, making them-self available to us any time to answer our questions and reassure our fears. The anaesthetist, was also wonderfully kind.

Nursing staff a credit to the NHS. HDU and ward 16 were especially wonderful, clean with nurses and healthcare support workers who couldn't do enough to make sure patients are comfortable. Only niggle was the rapid move to ward 14, but we understand the need for high care beds.

All in all, mum has received the highest quality of care, and I'm grateful to her consultant and all the team for such an excellent outcome.

Thank you for taking the time to share with me your mother’s recent experience.

It is fantastic to hear that the teams that your mother came into contact with kept your mother fully included and engaged in her treatment plans. It is very satisfying to hear that you were provided with information at a time that you needed it and in a way that provided reassurance against your fears.

I am sorry that the move to ward 14 was rapid but as you have appreciated the need for high dependency beds can change quickly. I hope that it did not cause too much upset for you and your mother.

I will share your experience with the teams involved in your mother’s care who will be delighted to hear that it has been so very positive.

We have a Patient story programme which allows patients to relay their experiences directly to the trust by video or audio recording. If you would like to participate in this please contact Helenm.kay@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk

I hope that your Mothers recovery continues and I would like to thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience.

Andrew
