"Ward 4 Outstanding"

My Mum has recently completed a seven week stay on Ward 4 and I thought the care and support she received was outstanding from start to finish. Without exception the wonderful staff treated my Mum with kindness, understanding and compassion and her dignity was respected at all times. I was particularly impressed by the fact that staff listened to me and took on board important information that I was able to give them about my Mum and her illness, . I visited daily during her long stay and witnessed many other elderly patients come on to the ward, all that I observed were treated in the same caring manner with the staff helping them to settle in quickly despite the fact that many, like my Mum, were uncooperative at the start due to their Illness and could not understand why they were there. Within a few days of being on the ward all seemed to have settled well. Patients have their own room and there is a mixed day lounge where patients spend most of their time during the day. For patients who are well enough to participate, activities are organised quite often, either on the ward itself or sometimes with patients from other wards. In my opinion this ward is an example of Best Practice in the Health Service. I understand that this ward is temporary at the moment, I hope that it becomes permanent and Senior Staff who decide budgets on these matters realise what a Beacon of Excellence they have with this ward. I cannot thank the Doctors, nurses, care staff, occupational therapists and activities staff enough for the difference they made to my Mum and the support they gave to me.
