"A&E were outstanding: day staff excellent,..."

About: Dorset County Hospital

I was admitted through A&E - they were absolutely fantastic! Couldn't have been more efficient! I was very frightened & confused & The Sister explained everything to me & was very compassionate. The consultants, registrars, nurses, radiographs etc: all very thorough, efficient & kind! I was admitted, the day staff on the ward were very good, especially the HCAs & the consultant who saw me. I found the night staff to be very "put out". I had to call a nurse several times through the night for the lady next to me - each time seemed like a real inconvenience for the nurse! They weren't very compassionate & talked over patients while helping them dress / wash etc. I thought the ward was fairly dirty, no fresh air & I was encouraged to stay in bed. The food wasn't very nutritious / healthy.

Overall, the care I received in A&E was absolutely outstanding! Within an hour I had been seen, had a plethora of tests & had someone with me constantly. The doctor and the sister were especially good - over & above simply doing their jobs. Day staff on the ward were fantastic both days.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

It is lovely to read that you had such good experiences in our A&E department and they will appreciate your feedback.

I would like to be able to investigate further about your experience at night on our ward.

I know that the cleaning and catering departments will also be disappointed by your feedback as they have extremely high standards and will want to investigate why these haven't been met in your case.

If you feel able to share your experiences in more detail with us I would be grateful if you could contact our PALS service on 0800 7838058 or pals@dchft.nhs.uk.

Once again, thank you for leaving your feedback.

Sarah Silverton, Patient & Public Experience Lead, Dorset County Hospital
