My husband and I could not fault a single thing about our recent experience at East Surrey Hospital. Every single person treated us with respect and were so friendly. The midwife who met us in triage was very understanding of my fears (due to previous complications post birth) and of my low pain tolerance (!) We were guided to a birthing room where a pool was offered but unfortunately it took too long to fill up-baby was delivered 45 minutes after our arrival at the hospital. No intervention from doctors needed, our midwife let us/me take the lead and pretty much do what I wanted. They kept the lights low and my baby was born on the floor, a position I was more than comfortable with. We were both offered something to eat and drink very soon after the birth and skin-to-skin, breastfeeding and quiet time was heavily encouraged by both midwives who looked after us. We were discharged 6 hours after the birth and stayed on the birthing unit the entire time. I still smile now at what a great experience it was, thank you so much.
"Very happy new mum, thank you ESH!"
