"Hysteroscopy"

About: Leicester General Hospital

I attended ward 11 yesterday for a hysteroscopy. I'd been terrified about having this done after hearing horror stories about how painful the procedure was. The consultant was lovely, gave me tissues when I cried as soon as I saw them and explained everything that would happen; giving me the option of returning and having it done under GA. They made me feel so confident in them that I said I'd have it done straight away. All the staff were lovely and the nurse holding my hand through the procedure talked to me so much that I didn't have time to worry! I was waiting for the pain to start and the Consultant said it was all finished. Anyone waiting to have this done and reading the scary stories, remember that people are more likely to dwell on and report bad experiences, for the lucky majority who get through it painlessly we just go home and forget it. I know that if it had been too painful they would have stopped and brought me back for a GA and I wouldn't be scared if I had to go again.
