"My Daughters Admission to Crosshouse Paediatrics"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Paediatrics NHS 24

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was unwell (bad cough, sickness) on Wednesday and later on in the evening she started wheezing with pains in her tummy.

After a phone call to NHS 24 we got an appointment (the receptionist fitted us in straight away despite being busy due to my daughters age), the Dr that we seen was lovely, very friendly and wonderful with my daughter, he then referred us onto the Paediatric Unit but first we had a trip to A&E before being moved up to the ward.

The nurses that we seen in A&E were faultless and nothing short of fabulous. They gave my daughter a nebuliser and some steriods as her oxygen levels were low. Despite them being overwhelmed by an influx of patients and Police at 1 am they were still very attentive and approachable.

We were then taken up to Paediatric Ward 1a for my daughters breathing to be assessed and monitored. She had to have more oxygen and more of the nebuliser. The nurses and Dr's made such a fuss over her, she felt like a princess even though she was poorly. We had a full ward to ourselves and as the medication made her hyper, they let her watch the big Robot DVD player and have some toys.

We did then get admitted to ward 1B in the afternoon on the Thursday as her oxygen levels hadn't improved enough and again all of the staff on the ward were absolutely fantastic, making a fuss over my daughter and making sure we were all ok, she didnt want to leave the hospital once she was all better as the play room (and Play Coordinator) were so good.

Thank you to everyone at Crosshouse, you really helped my little girl feel special and put her mum and dads mind at ease!

Dear Chezwad123

Thank you for your posting on Patient Opinion in relation to the service provided to your daughter. I am sure this would have been a worrying time for you all and I am very pleased to note your complimentary feedback for the staff who managed your daughter's care.

Within your posting you mentioned a call to NHS 24 and that is why we were tagged to your story. I do hope that you feel your call to our service was managed well. I note that following your call to NHS 24 your daughter was given an appointment for face to face assessment.

It is always a pleasure to hear of a positive experience and I am sure my colleagues with NHS Ayrshire & Arran will be pleased to read your feedback. Should you wish to provide any specific feedback to NHS 24, I would be very pleased to hear from you. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I do wish you, your daughter and her dad well.

Take care

With regards

Shona Lawrence
