"Livid about my mum's care"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 7)

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to hospital in early January, but she was put out a few days later because her bed was needed. I still felt she wasn't right.

Then, a few days ago, I took her to doctors, where she phoned an ambulance right away. She has been on drips and oxygen and nebuliser. However, she has just been put out today. I was disgusted when I walked into the discharge lounge to see my mum sitting in a housecoat and slippers not even a comb to her hair. I took a photo of the way she was left sitting. She is just getting over having pneumonia, then to my disgust I had to take her into a public toilet to get her dressed.

I feel the care she has had is shocking. I am livid at this. I will be going up to see my msp tomorrow.

Dear Livid Daughter,

I am sorry to hear that your Mum had taken ill in early January and a couple of days ago and also and that you feel she was discharged home due to bed pressures on the first visit to the Hospital.

I'm sorry that you felt the standards of care fell short of what would be expected and that this caused you distress when you went to collect her in the discharge lounge.

I am unaware of which ward she was based in or Consultant that she was reviewed by.

In order for us to fully investigate this, review her care plan and provide you with a targeted response to your concerns I would ask if you could contact Mrs Yvonne Ross, Patients Affairs Manager on 01698 366558.

I hope that your Mum is making progress.

Best Wishes

Andy
