"Treatment made a real difference to my life"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC / Continence advisory service

(as the patient),

I was referred to the clinic last July and have just been discharged from there. The clinic is very good.

I was very frightened of going but a friend who works in another section there said I should go because the girls there, especially Julie, was lovely. She really was! Julie put me at my ease from the very start, kept my dignity throughout and was very encouraging throughout. She talked to me with respect, gave me lots of exercises and through the treatment programme has made a real difference to my life.

I enjoy walking but was wary of going for longer walks as I could not risk being caught short! However my last walk was almost 10 miles – such a change in six months!

Thank you for your comments.

People often feel nervous when going to health clinics. Continence problems can be difficult to talk about so I'm really pleased you were put at ease. Many patients refer themselves to our service because it has been recommended by a friend which is really encouraging for us.

It's often the case that knowing the correct exercises and how to progress them can significantly reduce symptoms.

Enjoy your longer walks!
