"Lack of information during my visit to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit St John's Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

I was seen at the A&E and was admitted to AMU for what I believed to an over night visit because I required an echo cardiogram. At this point, unfortunately, I still had no idea what had happened and it was not explained to me as the patient. They used words like heart failure, lung disease, very scary stuff.

After awaiting for a whole day, this test was not carried out. Then, the next day again the test was not carried out. I was assured that it would happen the day after, but again it never happened. At which point I became very frustrated, as they told me it would be the next week and the ward doctor arranged for me to be allowed home.

I was handed a pack drugs and without even a clue as to what they're for sent on my way.

The next evening I admittedly panicked and was sent to St Johns A&E, At this hospital, I was told exactly what the problem was and what the drugs I was given actually did - for which thank the St Johns A&E doctor for taking the time out from what probably a very busy evening.

Dear DismalExperienceERI

I am sorry to read of your recent experiences in AMU at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. It does not sounds as though things happened as they should have done. I would be happy to look into this for you and can be contacted via the Patient Experience Team (feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk) or telephone 0131 536 3370.

On a more positve note l was pleased to hear that things went better for you when you visited St John's.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Jeannette
