I feel the need to share an experience recently had at FVRH larbert. This involved a family member who had taken an overdose. The way the doctor greeted him was appalling. The doctor spoke to him in a patronising tone, threatened him that he could be "detained" if he tried to leave (which he hadn't even mentioned the entire 7 hours he had been in the hospital), and spoke over the top of him. The doctor then threatened him with security, after the family member became upset and shouted.
I acknowledge that shouting is not appropriate, however, this person was already in an extremely vulnerable state, and to be treated like this, is unacceptable. It is no wonder that people with mental health issues are afraid to access NHS services when they are told "its up to you what you do with your life", with not one ounce of compassion from the doctor.
"Poor compassion from a consultant"
