"There needs to be more care taken ..."

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

There needs to be more care taken to ensure that the patient does understand what is happening/being said to them and also keep the next of kin informed so that any unneccesary anxiety is kept to a minimum. The orthapedic admission is appalling - appointment was 10/12/2009 @ 3pm and a bed was eventually found at 7.50pm - confirmed appointment schedule before leaving home at 1.45pm and arrived to absolute madness on the admissions ward

Anything else?

More communication needed between patients next of kin and medical staff-we had to ask for all information and were not told when patient had been moved to another ward and he himself did not understand what was going on - this is just the tip of an iceberg and having been to SGH on many occassions we feel the lastest is of great concern - the service seems to be going down hill at the expense of the patients care.
